Texas Poet Laureate to Visit Library March 18
MCALLEN, TX – Jan Seale, 2012 Texas Poet Laureate, will be reading from her work at McAllen Public Library, 4001 N. 23rd Street and Nolana Avenue, Sunday, March 18, 4PM in the auditorium. The event is free and open to the general public. No registration is required.
Ms. Seale is a Texas native and longtime resident of McAllen. She is the author of seven volumes of poetry, two books of short fiction, three books of nonfiction, and nine children's books.
In the 1990s she served a term as president of the McAllen Public Library Board. Said Ms. Seale of MPL, “As a writer, I have used the library extensively and have always been impressed by the vast collection and careful management.”
Ms. Seale’s presentation on March 18th will include poems from her latest books, Nape and The Wonder Is, as well as prose from her latest book of short fiction, Appearances. Much of her writing depicts the culture, native plants and animals of the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

The Texas Poet Laureate is selected for a one-year appointment by the Texas Poet Laureate, State Musician and State Artist Committee in Austin. The honorary appointment carries with it no obligations or requirements but is meant to designate an outstanding and recognized poet who is also a citizen of Texas.
