McAllen Public Library Kicks Off Food for Fines 2017 Campaign

Posted Wednesday Nov 01, 2017

Patrons of McAllen Public Library have an opportunity to help the less fortunate and reduce their fines with a “Food for Fines” drive benefitting the RGV Food Bank. From November 1st through December 1st, the Main Library located on 23rd and Nolana, the Lark Branch Library located at 2601 Lark Avenue, and the Palm View Branch Library located at 3401 Jordan Avenue will collect non-perishable food items and the library will waive $1 from library fines for each item donated. There is no limit on the amount a patron can donate or get waived.

Acceptable food donations must be: sealed, non-perishable, not expired, multi-serving, and not in a glass container.

"We know that this time of year there are many people throughout our community that need a little help. The Food for Fines drive provides an opportunity for us to do something great and make a difference in people’s lives," said Kate Horan, Library Director. “In addition, you can reduce your fines and use your library card to access all of the resources that we offer.”
