What the Board Does

Helping shape library services for the community

The Library Advisory Board makes recommendations regarding library services, policies, programming, and future planning for McAllen Public Library. Board members support literacy, accessibility, outreach, and community partnerships that continue to strengthen the library system.

Dates: Second Thursday of the Month

Library Advisory Board meetings are typically held on the second Thursday of each month at Main Library, located at 4001 N. 23rd St. in McAllen.

Board Impact

Supporting Library Growth & Community Engagement

The Library Advisory Board continues to support the growth and future of McAllen Public Library through advocacy, community engagement, and public support for library initiatives. Board members help champion programs and projects that strengthen literacy, expand access to resources, and create meaningful experiences for residents of all ages.

Over the years, the Board has supported community events, fundraising efforts, cultural programs, youth literacy initiatives, and long range planning that contribute to the Library’s ongoing success. Their involvement helps ensure McAllen Public Library remains a welcoming space for learning, creativity, and connection throughout the community.

 




Award-Winning Leadership

Wild West Casino Night Fundraiser wins Branding Iron Award

McAllen Public Library has received the Best in Show Award from the prestigious Texas Library Association's (TLA) Branding Iron Awards! The award was presented to MPL for the 2021 Wild West Casino Fundraiser, which directly supported the South Texas Book Festival (STBF) and was hosted by the McAllen Public Library Advisory Board.

The Fiesta Casino Night & Taquiza Fundraiser has received the Gold Award for the Best Event / Program Within an Event to Benefit A Cause for Wild West Casino Night from the International Festival & Events Association and a Gold Award from the Texas Festival & Events Association.
