Facility | The entrance and restrooms in all McAllen Public Libraries feature power assist doors. There are designated accessible parking spots outside each library’s entrance.
Mobility Scooter | Located near the Welcome Desk at the Main Library, visitors can borrow a motorized scooter for up to 2 hours inside the library. Just ask for the key when you’re ready to roll.
On Site, Helpful and Friendly Staff | Staff at service desks are available to assist patrons with searching for and retrieving hard-to-reach items in the stacks and fixing technology issues. If you need assistance, please stop by one of the service desks and we are happy to help.
Large Print Collection | The library offers a great selection of non-fiction in the large print collection (14+ point lettering).
Texas Talking Book Program | Providing free digital audio, large print and Braille books and magazines to Texas residents of any age with qualifying visual, physical, or reading disabilities that prevent them from reading standard print. For more information, call 1-800-252-9605 or 956.681.3000.
Program Resources | Sign language speech interpreters are available for library-sponsored classes, events and programs. Please let us know if you would like an orientation to and escort within the library for blind and low-vision patrons. Please make arrangements at least seven (7) days in advance.
Tool Kit | The library offers a variety of tools such as magnifiers. The Main Library also offers equipment and software such as ZoomText, JAWS and Merlin.
Service Animals | The library welcomes service animals in all areas.
