Play for Every Child

The Orchid Avenue Inclusive Playground provides a welcoming outdoor space where children of all abilities can play, learn, and explore together. Designed with accessibility in mind, the playground features sensory-rich play elements, activity panels, ramps, and slides that encourage movement, imagination, and social interaction.

Built with the help of volunteers from Keep McAllen Beautiful, the National Hispanic Professionals Organization, and UTRGV, the playground was created to support active play, creativity, and connection.

In 2024, the playground received new upgrades, including a shade structure, fencing, and accessible picnic tables, creating a more comfortable space for families to play and enjoy the library grounds year-round.

Tiny Forest
Small Forest, Big Impact

Unveiled in March 2025, the Tiny Forest at Orchid Park was created in partnership with Quinta Mazatlán to bring native plants, trees, and outdoor learning opportunities to the community. Made possible through the generous support of H-E-B Helping Here and the Friends of Quinta Mazatlán, this unique space serves as a living example of how small green spaces can make a lasting impact.

Tiny Forests are densely planted areas designed to mimic the growth and biodiversity of a much larger forest. As the forest matures, it will provide habitat for birds and butterflies, improve air quality, add natural beauty to the library grounds, and create an outdoor classroom for children and families to explore and learn from nature.
