Biography:

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1981, Lorena Ochoa is one of the greatest golfers of all time and one of Mexico’s most influential figures in sports and public life. She earned her LPGA Tour card at age 22 and rose to No. 1 in the world in 2007, holding the top ranking for 158 consecutive weeks. She won 27 LPGA Tour events, including two major championships: the 2007 Women’s British Open and the 2008 Kraft Nabisco Championship. She was named Rolex Player of the Year four times and won the Vare Trophy four times. In 2017, she became the first Mexican and the first Latin American woman inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. She was inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame in 2022. Her achievements have also been recognized by the Women’s Sports Foundation, Time, and Forbes.

Ochoa’s commitment to education dates to 2004, when she established Fundación Lorena Ochoa to support the development of children and young people in Mexico. Since 2019, its partnership with Fundación Becar has benefited more than 15,000 children at 29 schools across 12 Mexican states. She serves as an ambassador for Te Protejo México and works with Crescendo con la Música, an initiative that brings music education to young people. Her philanthropic work also encompasses youth sports, particularly opportunities to pursue golf at the amateur and professional levels; organ donation awareness; climate action; support for older adults; and overall health and well-being.

In 2025, Ochoa published an updated edition of her autobiography. Her professional endeavors include golf course design and speaking engagements.

Entonces levanté la cara, le di las gracias al público y, como acostumbraba, me persigné, coloqué mi bastón en posición y di mi primer tiro con lágrimas en los ojos. En ese momento sentí que mis piernas flaqueaban; busqué a mi caddie, le di mi driver y le dije llorando: 'Vamos a disfrutar este día'." Lorena Ochoa se encontraba en una inigualable situación cuando anunció su retiro de la Ladies Professional Golf Association. Vivía el sueño que imaginó desde pequeña: convertirse en la mejor golfista del mundo. Gracias a su entereza y tenacidad, logró una carrera exitosa que continúa hoy día y que ha completado a nivel personal con la familia propia que también siempre soñó.
