Our Mission

South Texas International Book Festival (STIBF) is a celebration of culture and imagination by linking readers of all ages with authors, performers, and publishers, and fulfilling the mission of McAllen Public Library as a place where people and ideas meet and connect.

Our History

The festival began in 2014 as the McAllen Book Festival, created by McAllen Public Library to to connect readers with authors and expand access to literary programming in the Rio Grande Valley. Over the years, it has grown into one of the region’s largest literary events, welcoming thousands of attendees and a wide range of authors, storytellers, and community partners.

2014
The Beginning

McAllen Public Library launched the McAllen Book Festival (MBF) with a vision of creating greater access to authors and literary programming in South Texas.

2018
Rebranding

In August 2018, we re-branded our annual book festival and announced a new name, a new logo, and a wider appeal. McAllen Book Festival became the South Texas Book Festival.

2020
STBF Expands

South Texas Book Festival kicked off its seventh year with an exciting addition. For the first time, STBF went virtual and included literary sessions for adults. 

2023
A Decade of STBF

In 2023, McAllen Public Library announced the 10th Annual South Texas Book Festival, engaging readers of all ages in a diverse array of activities. 

2026
STBF Goes International

In 2026, we have gone international and are now the South Texas International Book Festival (STIBF)!
